Breezy to windy conditions yesterday afternoon and evening, as a cold front passed through the Great Basin and N. CA. Today a very strong surface high will build into the Great Basin. This will bring about cooler day and evening temps and a continuation of gusty winds, with <very> dry air. By later today the winds should settle down and temps will drop (sub-freezing?) in the mountain areas this evening. Then Thursday and Friday sees a dramatic jump upwards in daytime highs to above normal. This see-saw between below normal and above normal temps is not unusual for May.
So as we begin May; According to Ken Clark, Western USA weather expert, “these last four months (Jan/Feb/Mar/Apr) helped to contribute to this last winter being the fourth driest on record in the last 135 years. Remarkable.”
